History

Vecna was originally founded providing consulting and systems integration services to the United States Military Health System and Department of Veterans Affairs. The founders derived the name 'Vecna' from the Czech word věčný, fem. věčná, meaning 'eternal' implying that the company and its products are built to last. Vecna Technologies was founded in 1998 and has offices in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Greenbelt, Maryland, and Falls Church, Virginia.[1]

QC PathFinder electronic infection surveillance software

Vecna's QC PathFinder electronic infection surveillance software automatically detects healthcare-acquired infections (HAIs), pharmacy-related safety events, and facilitates reporting of infections to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention National Health Safety Network (NHSN).[2] QC PathFinder can also automatically generate clinically validated institutional antibiograms that inform clinicians on appropriate antimicrobial choices for pathogens within their hospital.[3]

Patient Self-Service Kiosks and Web Portal

Vecna's patient self-service kiosks and web portal handle such tasks as patient registration and check-in, insurance coverage verification, self-reporting of previously received drugs or procedures, and syndromic surveillance to detect potential disease outbreaks.[4] Vecna's vitals kiosk is integrated with devices to capture patient vital signs including weight, temperature, blood pressure, and pulse. The American Hospital Association has endorsed Vecna's kiosk and patient portal services.[5]

QC Bot Medication Delivery Robot

Vecna's QC Bot is a hospital courier, tele-presence and patient self-service robot that improves efficiency, reduces medical errors, and increases patient and staff satisfaction. A configurable touchscreen lets hospital staff and patients interact with the robot through natural, intuitive menus and workflows. QC Bot's state-of-the-art guidance system means less set up time, less maintenance, and more robust navigation in complex hospital campuses.

BEAR Robot

Vecna operates a robotics division known for its Battlefield Extraction-Assist Robot (BEAR).[6] The BEAR robot is outfitted with infrared cameras and can be operated remotely. The BEAR robot was originally designed to rescue wounded soldiers from the battlefield but also has numerous applications in logistics.[7]
